Two Faults Cover Most Consoles

The single most common console repair is a damaged HDMI port. It happens because the cable gets caught or the console gets moved with it plugged in, and the port takes a sideways force it was never designed for. The console powers on, the fan runs, and the television shows nothing. That is a board-level soldering job — which is why a lot of shops will not do it and simply tell you the console is finished. It is not.

The second is heat, and in southern New Mexico that is not a small factor. Consoles pull in dust, the thermal paste dries out, and eventually the machine shuts itself off part-way through a game to protect itself. People read that as a dying console when it is a clean and a repaste. Putting a console inside a closed cabinet is the most common way to cause this, and moving it is sometimes the entire fix.

Beyond those two: disc drives that will not accept or read a disc, power supplies that have failed, controllers with stick drift, and consoles that will not power on at all. We run a mobile service into Las Cruces — a technician drives to you. Work that needs a bench comes back to the shop in Anthony, about 25 minutes south, and returns to you when it is done.

What We Repair

PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo — current generation and older.

🔌

HDMI Port Replacement

Powers on but no picture. Board-level soldering that many shops decline — we do it rather than declaring the console dead.

🌡️

Overheating & Shutdowns

Turning itself off mid-game, or fans at maximum constantly. Dust and dried thermal paste, cleaned and repasted.

💿

Disc Drives

Discs that will not go in, will not eject, or spin without ever loading. Usually the drive belt, gear or laser.

No Power / Power Supplies

Nothing at all when you press the button. Internal power supplies fail and are replaceable.

🕹️

Controller Drift

The stick that moves on its own. Repairable, and much cheaper than replacing controllers repeatedly.

💾

Storage & Upgrades

Failed internal drives and storage expansion, so you are not deleting games to install one.

Before You Replace the Console

Being straight about the limits saves you a trip and saves us both time.

No picture is usually the port, not the console

If it powers on and the fan runs, the machine is almost certainly fine and the HDMI port is not. That is a repair, not a write-off.

Get it out of the cabinet

A console in an enclosed unit recirculates its own hot air. Overheating shutdowns sometimes stop entirely once it can breathe.

Stop using a drifting controller

Drift gets worse with use and can wear the housing as well as the stick module, which makes the repair bigger.

Back up your saves where you can

Cloud saves cover most games on current consoles. Worth confirming before any repair that involves the storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. One Stop Computers repairs PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles for customers across Las Cruces and Doña Ana County. Console work is bench work at 816 Franklin St A, Anthony, TX 79821, about 25 minutes south, and we can collect through our mobile service.
Almost certainly not. If it powers on and the fan spins, the usual cause is a damaged HDMI port — a board-level soldering repair. Many shops decline that work and tell people the console is finished. We do it.
Overheating, nearly always. Dust builds up and thermal paste dries out, so the machine protects itself by shutting down under load. A clean and repaste usually resolves it — and getting it out of a closed cabinet helps.
Yes. It is a worn or dirty stick module and it is repairable, which is considerably cheaper than buying replacement controllers every year.
Yes — including Joy-Con drift, charging ports and docks, alongside PlayStation and Xbox.
It depends on the fault. We diagnose first and quote before starting, and the standard $99.95 diagnostic is credited toward the repair if you go ahead. No fix = no repair charge.
