No picture, shutting off mid-game, a disc drive that will not take a disc, or a controller that drifts. PS5, PS4, Xbox and Switch repaired for Las Cruces — including the HDMI port work most shops send away.
The single most common console repair is a damaged HDMI port. It happens because the cable gets caught or the console gets moved with it plugged in, and the port takes a sideways force it was never designed for. The console powers on, the fan runs, and the television shows nothing. That is a board-level soldering job — which is why a lot of shops will not do it and simply tell you the console is finished. It is not.
The second is heat, and in southern New Mexico that is not a small factor. Consoles pull in dust, the thermal paste dries out, and eventually the machine shuts itself off part-way through a game to protect itself. People read that as a dying console when it is a clean and a repaste. Putting a console inside a closed cabinet is the most common way to cause this, and moving it is sometimes the entire fix.
Beyond those two: disc drives that will not accept or read a disc, power supplies that have failed, controllers with stick drift, and consoles that will not power on at all. We run a mobile service into Las Cruces — a technician drives to you. Work that needs a bench comes back to the shop in Anthony, about 25 minutes south, and returns to you when it is done.
PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo — current generation and older.
Powers on but no picture. Board-level soldering that many shops decline — we do it rather than declaring the console dead.
Turning itself off mid-game, or fans at maximum constantly. Dust and dried thermal paste, cleaned and repasted.
Discs that will not go in, will not eject, or spin without ever loading. Usually the drive belt, gear or laser.
Nothing at all when you press the button. Internal power supplies fail and are replaceable.
The stick that moves on its own. Repairable, and much cheaper than replacing controllers repeatedly.
Failed internal drives and storage expansion, so you are not deleting games to install one.
Being straight about the limits saves you a trip and saves us both time.
If it powers on and the fan runs, the machine is almost certainly fine and the HDMI port is not. That is a repair, not a write-off.
A console in an enclosed unit recirculates its own hot air. Overheating shutdowns sometimes stop entirely once it can breathe.
Drift gets worse with use and can wear the housing as well as the stick module, which makes the repair bigger.
Cloud saves cover most games on current consoles. Worth confirming before any repair that involves the storage.

Does it power on? Any picture? Any noise from the disc drive? That usually identifies it before we see the machine.
